Meera bhabhi stood in the hallway of our Bengaluru flat with one sandal hooked on her toes and the other swinging from her fingers. The building secretary was still talking in her ear about the society meeting downstairs. My elder brother Sameer’s wife had promised to take minutes, and she had already draped a cream dupatta over her kurta.
Dev and Nikhil were on the sofa with me, still in the T-shirts they had worn to the evening match at the club. We had come back only to drink water and argue about a dropped catch. None of us had expected my bhabhi to pause there, half out the door.
She said, “Yes, five minutes,” then lowered the phone.
The secretary’s voice leaked for another second. Meera ended the call without explaining. In apartments across India, a cancelled Saturday meeting usually meant a polite excuse. She did not look polite.
“I told her I have a fever,” she said. “That is a lie.”
I sat forward. “Then go, bhabhi. They will wait.”
She set the empty sandal on the floor and kept the other one on, as if she had not decided which life to step into. Heat still clung to the walls after a long afternoon. Dev stopped talking about cricket.
“I do not want the meeting,” Meera said, looking at the three of us, not at the door. “I want to stay here. With you. All three. I have thought about it since last month, when you sprawled on this sofa and pretended not to watch me walk past.”
Nikhil’s mouth opened and closed. Dev rubbed his palm on his knee.
“Sameer is on night duty until midnight,” I said. “You are his wife. If someone from the committee comes up—”
“I already cancelled.” Her voice stayed even. “If any of you want me to put the other sandal on and go downstairs, say it now. I will go. I will not ask twice.”
Silence held for a breath. Then Dev said, “I don’t want you to go.”
Nikhil nodded once. “Same.”
The cautious part of me should have sent her out. Instead I stood, close enough to smell the talc on her throat. “You are sure.”
She took my wrist and set my hand on the knot of her dupatta. “I am sure. Stop sending me out the door.”
That was the whole negotiation. She waited to see if I would pull away. I did not.
Meera Left the Sandal
The remaining sandal came off when she stepped back toward the sofa. Dev made room without a joke, which was how I knew he had stopped performing. Nikhil stayed at the armrest, watching my bhabhi the way he watched a last over, quiet and exact.
Cricket arguments like ours happen in sitting rooms all over India, but this one had stopped. Meera put my hand higher, under the dupatta, against the cotton of her kurta. Her heart was going fast. Mine was worse.
“Don’t treat me like glass,” she said. “I came back from the door for this.”
The dupatta slid. Dev caught it and dropped it on the chair instead of folding it like a guest. Meera laughed under her breath at that, then pulled my mouth to hers. The kiss was dry at first, then not. She bit my lower lip when I hesitated at the buttons of her kurta.
Nikhil asked, “Here?”
“Here,” she said. “If I go to the bedroom I will start thinking like a wife again.”
Buttons opened on their own once the first two gave. She wore a plain beige bra, the kind she put on for committee work, not for display. Dev’s mouth found her shoulder. She reached behind without looking and unhooked it, then shrugged the straps down and let the kurta hang open. Her breasts were heavier than the modest neckline had admitted, dark nipples already tight.
My palm covered one. She made a small sound and pushed into it. Dev took the other in his mouth, slow, and her fingers went into his hair hard enough to mean stay.
Palazzo pants are easy until they catch on an ankle. Nikhil knelt and worked them down. She stepped out, one hand on my shoulder for balance, and stood in pale panties with the kurta still hanging off her elbows like a half-finished thought. The living-room light was the cheap yellow we never changed. It made her stomach look soft and real.
“Wallet,” Dev said, not looking away from her.
Each of us had one condom. Mine was from a date that had ended at coffee two weeks ago. Dev tore his packet with his teeth. Nikhil was neater. I rolled mine on after I shoved my shorts and briefs down, because I was not going to fumble later in front of my bhabhi and pretend I was calm.
Meera hooked her thumbs in the panties and pushed them off herself. She sat on the sofa cushion, knees apart, and pulled me between them by the hips. “You first. I have wanted your face this close since you moved back in.”
Entering her was slow because she was tight and because I was shaking. She was wet enough that the condom still slid. Her mouth opened on a breath that was almost my name, then became Dev’s when he stood on the cushion and offered himself to her lips. She took him without theatre, one hand on my waist to keep me inside her, the other around Dev.
Nikhil waited at her side and stroked her breast with his knuckles, patient in a way that made her hips roll. The sofa complained. Somebody’s match bag was still by the TV. None of that mattered once she clenched around me and made a muffled sound on Dev.
“Harder,” she said, after she let Dev slip from her mouth. “Rohan, don’t be my devar right now.”
I held her thighs and gave her what she asked. Each thrust pushed a little sound out of her. Dev smeared her lower lip with his thumb and she laughed, then sucked him again. Nikhil kissed her temple, then her mouth when Dev moved aside, and she kissed him like she had been saving it.
The first time she came was small and surprising. Her nails bit my forearm. Inner muscles fluttered, then gripped, and she turned her face into the sofa back so the building would not hear my brother’s wife. I almost followed her. She felt it and said, “Not yet. Switch.”
We switched because she said to, not because we had a plan. Dev sat. She climbed into his lap facing him, sank down with a hiss, and reached behind for Nikhil. I stood close enough that she could take me in her mouth while she rode Dev. The angle was messy. Her spit ran. She did not seem to care.
“Tell me if you need to stop,” Nikhil murmured, and she shook her head around me, which was answer enough. He pushed into her from behind in short tests until she pushed back onto him, and then the three of us were sharing her in a rhythm that was more hunger than choreography.
Sweat collected in the hollow of her back. The kurta finally came off her arms and landed on Dev’s abandoned T-shirt. She was naked on a sofa I had napped on a hundred times. Seeing my bhabhi like that, open for my friends and for me, knocked the last careful language out of my head.
“Look at me,” she told Dev, and he did, jaw tight, hands on her hips. She came again with Nikhil deep and me against her tongue, a longer shake this time, thighs trembling. Dev followed with a curse he swallowed against her shoulder. The condom held. He stayed in her until the pulses faded, then eased out like he was afraid to be rude.
Nikhil lasted less long after that. He pressed his forehead to her spine and finished with both hands on her waist, saying her name once, quietly, as if the walls might report it to Sameer. She reached back and held his wrist until he was done.
That left me aching and obvious. Meera turned, still breathless, and pulled me down onto the cushion. She lay on her back, one leg over the sofa back, and guided me in. No speech. Her eyes stayed on mine, which was worse than dirty talk. I fucked her in earnest then, the living room shrinking to the wet sound and her breasts moving and the way she said “yes” like a fact.
When I came it felt stolen. She held my nape through it. The condom stayed on. I dropped my forehead to her collarbone and listened to all four of us trying to breathe like normal people.
The Four of Us
Nobody jumped up. Meera’s calf stayed hooked around my hip. Dev sat on the rug with his back to the coffee table, laughing once under his breath at nothing. Nikhil found his shorts and did not put them on yet.
“I thought I would feel worse,” she said to the ceiling.

Bhabhi Radhika Would Not Let Our Fight End at the Door
My bhabhi Radhika blocked the latch during an argument about my brother Sameer, told me to stay and hear her, and what followed on the sofa was explicit between us.Read related story“And?” Dev asked.
“I feel like I should drink water.” She tapped my shoulder. “Move. My leg is asleep.”
We untangled with the gracelessness of people who had used a sofa for something it was not sold for. She sat up, hair out of its clip, mouth swollen. In the yellow light she still looked like the woman who argued with the milkman, except she was naked and my friends were looking at her without pretending they were not.
Nikhil handed her the dupatta first, as if that could be a towel. She used it to wipe her throat and then dropped it again. “Don’t dress me. Not yet.”
My bhabhi leaned her head on my shoulder. Dev’s knee touched hers. For a few minutes the group of us just sat in the wreck of the evening, four adults who had done exactly what she had asked for at the door.
“Sameer cannot know,” I said, because the thought had come back with my pulse.
“He will not hear it from me.” She said it flat, not cruel. “You three will go home looking like you watched cricket. I will invent a better fever if I have to.”
Dev started to answer and then did not, because the doorbell rang.
Interrupted From Below
The ring was the long, impatient kind used by people who believed they owned the corridor. Meera’s face changed in one blink. She grabbed the kurta and yanked it on inside out. Palazzo pants, no panties, one sandal found, the other still under the chair.
“Meera?” Mrs. Iyer from 2B, the committee voice, spoke through the wood. “You said fever. We are waiting with the agenda. Open the door.”
Dev mouthed a curse. Nikhil already had his T-shirt. I kicked the condom wrappers under the sofa with my heel and pulled my shorts up hard enough to hurt.
Meera did not look at us for permission. She opened the door a hand’s width, hair still wrecked, kurta seam showing on the outside.
Mrs. Iyer’s eyes went past her to the three extra pairs of men’s slippers in a pile. The pause was ugly and complete.
“Your fever looks crowded,” she said.
“I am coming down,” Meera answered. No extra story. She stepped into the corridor with one sandal on and the other in her hand, the same way she had been standing when the night began, except now her mouth was red and the dupatta was still on the chair.
Mrs. Iyer turned toward the lift. My bhabhi followed her without glancing back. The door stayed ajar long enough for the three of us to hear the committee woman’s sandals and Meera’s uneven step.
Dev and Nikhil took the service stairs with their shoes in their hands. I stayed, because I lived there, and because someone had to shut the door. From the landing I heard Mrs. Iyer say they would not need a thermometer, and then the lift closed on my bhabhi and the meeting she had already lied her way out of.
