Thara shoved the foam-covered boom against my sternum hard enough to walk me into the wall. “You rode my inhale under the muraippu on purpose. Admit it, Nikhil.”
Rain slammed the rented bungalow roof in Indiranagar. Crew vans had already hissed away through standing water. I had stayed to scrub levels on the last take. She had turned the key in the main door after the final grip left.
Working sound for Tamil cinema left people joking I lived inside tamil romantic sex stories. Tonight the joke stopped being a joke and pressed heat straight into my ribs.
“Your breath was the cleanest track on the board,” I said. “I didn’t bury it.”
“Liar.” She twisted the boom aside and fisted my damp shirt. “You’ve watched my hips mark every count since Tuesday. I felt the mics lean when I rolled my waist.” Turmeric, rain, and sweat mixed on her breath. “I am not asking for soft. I am telling you how this goes.”
I caught her wrist, thumb on her pulse. “Then stop performing for empty rooms and say what you want done to you.”
Her laugh came low and pleased. “Good. Keep that voice. On your knees first.”
Rain Against the Glass
She walked me backward into the makeshift control corner where my laptop still glowed with stacked waveforms. Blue monsoon light flickered across the hollow of her throat. Thara pulled the practice dupatta free and dropped it across the faders like a flag of surrender that wasn’t surrender at all.
“Mouth where the camera never got clearance,” she said. “I counted on you noticing.”
I went down. Cold tile bit through my jeans. She gathered the rehearsal lehenga just high enough, guided my jaw with both hands, and held me exactly where she wanted while rain sheeted the window in thick white noise. Her fingers tight in my hair set the tempo—no apology, only the same ruthless precision she used on set when a dancer missed the beat. When her thighs started to tremble she hauled me up by the collar and kissed me like she was stealing air she had already paid for.
“Bedroll. Behind the light stands. Move.”
We stumbled past coiled XLR cables and a steel trunk of ghungroos. She shoved me down on the thin mattress the gaffer had forgotten, straddled my hips, and worked my belt with impatient, sure hands. “Condom. Side pocket of my tote. I put it there after lunch when you corrected my foot mic and looked at my mouth too long.”
That admission hit harder than the thunder. I found the foil, rolled it on while she watched with dark satisfaction, and then she sank down in one controlled drop that tore the same broken sound out of both of us.
“Hold still,” she ordered, palms flat on my chest. “I set the rhythm. You take it until I say otherwise.”
She moved like choreography turned filthy—deep rolling circles, deliberate pauses that made my jaw clench, sudden drops that forced my hands to her waist. I gripped hard enough to leave marks; she pushed into the pressure and demanded harder. Sweat cut clean paths through the stage powder on her collarbones. The bungalow smelled of wet earth, leftover resin incense from the morning puja corner, and skin.
“Look at me when I use you,” she said. I did. Her eyes stayed open, greedy, measuring every flinch she pulled out of me. When she came the first time she bit my shoulder to stay quiet, then laughed against my neck, breath hot. “Again. Don’t you dare finish before I say.”
I flipped her, pinned her wrists above the folded blanket that passed for a pillow, and drove into the pace she had already branded into my hips. Her orders broke into ragged Tamil curses and my name mixed together. Only when she clenched around me a second time and told me now did I let go, forehead pressed to hers, both of us shaking hard enough to make the light stand nearest us rattle.
What Morning Could Cost
We barely caught breath before she pushed me onto my back again. The second round started slower only because she wanted the control obvious—her mouth mapping down my stomach, my fingers sliding between her legs until she was slick enough to take me with less edge and more depth. She rode me facing the rain-streaked glass, spine arched, telling me exactly how deep, when to grip, when to stay still so she could grind for her own count. I obeyed until obedience itself became the ache, then broke her pattern just enough—an upward thrust she hadn’t called—to make her cry out and fist the mattress.
“Again that,” she gasped. “Do it because you want to, not because I queued it.”
So I did. Hands on her hips, I took the rhythm from her and gave it back dirtier until she came with her forehead against the glass and my name bitten into a whisper. I followed her over, vision whiting at the edges, the condom a thin necessary mercy neither of us romanticized.
Afterward she lay half across my chest, tracing the crescent bite she had left on my shoulder with one fingernail. “My co-producer lands at noon. He thinks I am loyal to the schedule and to the quiet story he likes telling about me.”
I stared at the ceiling fan cutting humid air in lazy circles. “So this was wrap courage. One night to burn the tension.”
“This was me taking what I marked on Tuesday when you knelt to fix my lav mic and your knuckles brushed my waist.” She sat up unashamed, gathering the lehenga around her hips without hurry. “I am not free. I am also not finished. Unit shifts to Mysuru day after tomorrow for the temple exterior. I can keep you rostered on sound. Or I can release you clean and never look at your levels again.”
Her phone buzzed on the floor—screen lighting a name I chose not to read aloud. She silenced it without answering, eyes still on me.
“Decide before the rain thins,” she said. “If you stay, you stay under my counts. No soft versions for the crew. No public claims. No sulking when he puts his hand on my back in front of the idol. You take what I give when I give it, and you keep your mouth shut about how hard I take you after.”
Water kept hammering the roof. The ache in my shoulder pulsed in time with my heartbeat. Walking away meant clean invoices and nights that sounded like nothing. Staying meant her rules, her risk, and the real chance her co-producer would smell the shift on both of us under temple lights when the mics were live.
I reached for my jeans, pulled out my phone, and typed one line to the production manager on the group thread: confirm me through the Mysuru dates, same kit.
Thara watched the send icon finish. Her smile turned sharp, pleased, already measuring the next hour. “Smart. Shower is through that door. Water pressure is garbage. Then I want you back on your knees before the generator coughs out. I still have counts left in me and you still have a mouth.”
I stood on unsteady legs. She stepped in close, bit the same shoulder once more—lighter, a seal—and pushed me toward the narrow bathroom.
Outside, thunder rolled over Bengaluru like a verdict that could still be appealed. Inside, she locked the bathroom door from the outside with a soft click and left me in the dark with the sound of her bare feet choosing how hard the rest of the night would demand I answer.
When I came out towel-damp she was already waiting on the bedroll, lehenga discarded, phone face-down, eyes bright with the kind of hunger that did not care about noon flights. “Come here,” she said. “We have until the rain stops pretending to hide us. After that you work for me in public and belong to me in whatever room I choose. Say yes like you mean the risk.”
“Yes,” I said, and went to my knees again because she pointed at the floor, because the decision had already left my body and become hers to spend, and because the next take—the private one—had no crew, no slate, and no mercy either of us wanted.
