Talia caught my coat sleeve before I could get the second arm through.
“Don’t walk out yet,” she said. “I already told building ops we needed a second pass on the loft.”
Callum looked up from the low sofa he had been dragging toward the window. Jonah still had a roll of sample felt in both hands, the kind we used to mock up acoustic panels for tenant walkthroughs. The client had left twenty minutes earlier, polite and unconvinced, and the ninth floor of our Kansas City office had gone quiet enough to hear the freight elevator two bays over.
I should have finished putting the coat on. The audit was done. The sketches were in the shared drive. Monday would be a polite recap and a smaller budget.
Talia did not let go of the sleeve. “I stalled them because I did not want the four of us walking out like we had only moved furniture.”
Jonah set the felt down on the console. Callum left the sofa crooked. Nobody asked who had voted for a second pass. The work decision was already in the room: stay, restage the lounge, make the loft look like a place a tenant might actually sit.
What Talia had admitted sat on top of that. She wanted the restage and she wanted us in it.
Callum rubbed the back of his neck. “If this is about the sectional, I can shove it myself.”
“It is not about the sectional,” Talia said. She looked at me, then at Jonah, then back at Callum. “If anyone wants the elevator, take it. I am not clocking this as overtime.”
Jonah’s mouth tilted. “I am not leaving.”
Callum said, “Same.”
I let the coat slide off my shoulder and drop over the nearest chair. That was the whole answer I had. Talia’s fingers found the first button of my blouse like she had been waiting for the fabric to be free of wool.
After the Client Left
The loft still smelled like new rug and the citrus cleaner facilities used before walkthroughs. Glass on two sides looked out on empty desks. The interior door to the corridor stayed closed because Talia had pulled it when the client left, not because anyone made a speech about privacy.
She kissed me first, slow enough that I could have stepped back. I did not. Callum came in at my other side, his palm warm at my waist, and Jonah waited until I reached for his belt myself.
“Come here,” I told him, and he did.
Buttons opened. Talia’s blouse went over the arm of the sofa. My skirt unzipped with a sound that felt louder than it was. Callum’s shirt caught on his watch and he swore, laughing, while Jonah toed off his shoes without looking away from my mouth.
We were four adults who had spent six weeks arguing about lounge depth and acoustic felt. Now the argument was gone. Talia’s bra hit the console beside the felt roll. Callum’s mouth found my breast while Jonah kissed the hinge of my jaw. Talia watched for a beat, then put my hand between her legs over the black underwear she had not taken off yet.
She was already wet. I rubbed her through the cotton until her knees bent, and she pulled the underwear down herself.
Callum asked, low, “You good if we keep going?”
“Yes,” I said, and Talia said it too, and Jonah nodded once like he did in client meetings when the number was final.
That was enough. Nobody circled it again.
The sofa that had failed to impress the tenant took my weight. Talia straddled my thigh, grinding, while Callum got his trousers open and wrapped my hand around him. Jonah knelt, pushed my knees apart, and put his mouth on me with the same focus he used on finish samples. I jerked, then settled, fingers in his hair, Talia’s breast in my other hand.
Callum leaned in so I could taste him. I did, messy, while Jonah’s tongue made my hips lift. Talia reached down and guided my fingers inside her. The loft’s glass threw a dull reflection of four bodies that did not look like a furniture plan.
Jonah stopped long enough to find his wallet. The condom packet cracked. He rolled it on, looked at me, and waited for the smallest nod. I gave it. He pushed in slow, filling me while Talia rocked on my hand and Callum’s cock slid against my tongue.
The first stretch made me gasp around Callum. Jonah held still until I pushed back onto him. Then he moved, steady, the sofa whispering against the new rug. Talia’s breath went sharp. She came on my fingers with her forehead on my shoulder, quiet, biting the sound down because the glass was only glass.
Callum pulled out of my mouth and kissed Talia instead. She took him in her hand, then her mouth, while Jonah fucked me deeper. My coat hung on the chair like a person who had meant to leave.
What the Phone Changed
Jonah’s phone buzzed on the console, rattling against the felt roll.
He did not stop at first. The second buzz made Talia lift her head. Callum swore under his breath. Jonah reached without pulling out, thumbed the screen, and froze in a way that had nothing to do with my body.
“Client,” he said. “Monday morning. They want the original layout. Do not restage tonight.”
The second pass, the whole reason ops thought we were still here, evaporated in one sentence.
Callum laughed once, incredulous. “So we are not even supposed to be moving the sofa.”
Talia wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “Then we are not here for the sofa.”
The interruption did not send anyone to the elevator. It took the last scrap of pretend-work off the room. Jonah set the phone face down. I hooked my ankle around his hip and pulled him back in, harder, because the loft was no longer a task.
Clothes that had stayed half on came off. Callum’s undershirt hit the rug. Talia climbed off my thigh and knelt beside Jonah, kissing him while he thrust, her hand on my clit. Callum stretched out so I could turn my head and take him again. The rhythm got less careful. The sofa inched toward the window and nobody corrected it.
When Jonah’s pace broke, he pulled out, stripped the condom, and came across my stomach with a sound he tried to swallow. Talia dragged her fingers through it and put them in her mouth, watching me. Callum lasted longer with her, on his back on the rug, Talia riding him while I sat on Jonah’s face and let him lick me through the aftershocks until I came again, shaking, holding the back of the sofa.

Corinne and I Had Sex in the Office Instead of Finishing the Room
Assigned to reset a Pittsburgh office collaboration suite during all-hands, I restored a U of chairs until Corinne asked a personal question that stopped the furniture work and left us barely dressed when voices filled the corridor.Read related storyCallum finished inside Talia with a condom he had put on without making a project of it. She stayed on him after, breathing, her palm on my calf. Jonah’s jaw was wet. My blouse was somewhere under the console. The acoustic felt had rolled onto the floor and nobody picked it up.
We stayed like that until the HVAC kicked on and the loft air turned cooler on bare skin. Talia laughed into Callum’s shoulder. I found my underwear with my toes and did not put it on yet.
Jonah reached for his phone, thought better of it, and left the client message unread a second time. Monday would still be Monday.
“Water,” Callum said, and nobody moved toward the kitchenette for a full minute.
Talia finally stood, naked except for her watch, and crossed the loft like she still owned the walkthrough. She came back with four glasses from the hospitality shelf. We drank standing, close enough that my hip kept bumping Jonah’s. The glasses were the heavy ones we used for tenant tastings. They made an ordinary office sound when they set down on the console.
I pulled my blouse on without buttoning it. Callum found his trousers. Talia stepped into her skirt and left the zipper half up. Jonah sat on the crooked sofa to put his shoes on, then stayed sitting, looking at the glass and the dark desks beyond it.
“Ops still thinks we are restaging,” Talia said.
“Let them,” Jonah said. “The layout is the original. We did not even finish moving the sofa.”
That was true. The lounge still looked like a failed demo. The only thing we had finished was each other.
The Loft Lights Go Out
I put the coat on properly this time. The lining felt too warm. Talia zipped her skirt the rest of the way and tucked her blouse in with the same two tugs she used before client meetings. Callum buttoned his shirt wrong on the first try and fixed it without comment.
Jonah picked up the felt roll and set it back on the console, not as cleanup, just so it would not look stolen. Nobody hunted for every button. My underwear went into my coat pocket because the alternative was searching under the sofa in fluorescent light.
The corridor was empty. Somewhere below, a buffer hummed. We walked like people leaving a late markup, which we were, except the markup had not happened.
At the loft doorway I reached for the slider. The panels went dark behind us in one motion, the glass turning into a black mirror of four adults in coats and rumpled shirts. That was the whole leftover: a room that would look unchanged to whoever opened it on Monday, and a light switch I did not need to explain.
The passenger elevator arrived empty. Talia hit the lobby button. Callum stood close enough that his sleeve touched mine. Jonah watched the floor numbers without talking. When the doors opened on the ground floor, we stepped out into the ordinary Kansas City evening and did not go back up.
